Working Together on Carbon

Climate change is making its presence known in the North: Boreal Forest soils, tundra and peatlands hold a massive stockpile of carbon — about 36 years’ worth of global emissions. But rising temperatures means some of these stores are vulnerable.

The good news? Lands managed by Indigenous peoples are proven to be more resilient to these climate threats. And in Canada, dozens of Indigenous communities are already stewarding land that would conserve these carbon stores. We can, and must, come together and support these efforts — for the health of the entire planet.
